No. A double-pane window is manufactured and sealed as one complete insulated glass unit. If one or both panes break, we replace the complete unit with new factory-sealed glass built to fit the existing frame.

Not always. If the existing frame is solid and the window still opens, closes, and locks correctly, we can usually replace only the damaged glass. A complete window replacement may be recommended when the frame is rotten, warped, badly damaged, or no longer operating properly.

Glass can sometimes break without an obvious impact. Possible causes include temperature changes, damage around the edge of the glass, pressure from the frame, previous installation damage, or movement in the surrounding structure. In rare cases, tempered glass may break because of a microscopic nickel sulfide inclusion created during manufacturing. This only applies to tempered glass and is not the cause of most unexplained glass breakage. The exact cause cannot always be confirmed after the glass has broken.

Yes. We replace broken glass in many patio doors and exterior doors. Safety glass is commonly required in these locations, so the replacement may need to be tempered or another approved form of safety glazing.

We custom order the replacement glass to match the existing glass as closely as possible. This may include the glass thickness, Low-E coating, grid pattern, grid color, safety-glass requirements, and decorative or privacy options. An exact match cannot always be guaranteed because older glass products, coatings, and grid styles may have changed or may no longer be available. We will explain the closest available option before your glass is ordered.
